The initial chapter of Antiphospholipid Antibodies (APLA): Types and Functions in Health and Disease focuses on the contemporary immunoassays used to determine aPL in biological fluids. The methods’ principles will be explained, and their potential applications for aPL analysis will be mentioned. Following that, the authors delve into antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), a clinical disorder characterized by thrombosis and/or pregnancy morbidity in the presence of pathogenic aPL with pro-coagulant activities. Two distinct strategies for assessing aPL testing are highlighted: quantitative assessments of thrombotic risks using aPL profiles and a novel combination of aPL tests for screening APS diagnosis. This publication further explores the introduction of the term seronegative antiphospholipid syndrome (SN-APS) by G.R.
