The American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), a nonprofit organization with the goal of advancing neurosurgery practice globally, publishes scientific journals through the Journal of Neurosurgery Publishing Group (JNSPG). Since its founding in 1944, the Journal of Neurosurgery has gained international recognition for its scholarly writings on clinical and laboratory research, cutting-edge surgical instruments and procedures, and its strict emphasis on the best possible presentation of scientific and medical advancements.

Original research in neurosurgery is the main focus of the JNSPG journals, although they also publish studies in pathology, radiography, clinical neurophysiology, organic neurology, ophthalmology, and molecular biology.
