The major hereditary disorders linked to diabetes are fully covered in this volume, which was authored by respected specialists. It provides information on chromosomal abnormalities, severe insulin resistance, ciliopathies, obesity and glucose metabolism, pancreatic beta cell defects, and other genetic diseases linked to an increased risk of developing diabetes. It is divided into five categories. Other subjects covered are the several forms of monogenic diabetes, including the Wolfram syndrome and the neonatal variant, and chromosomal abnormalities resulting in complicated diabetes-related disorders, such as Trisomy 21 or Prader-Willi syndrome. There are additional chapters devoted to the poorly studied connections between neurodegenerative diseases such as muscular dystrophy and Friedreich’s ataxia and metabolism. All pediatric and adult endocrinologists, as well as diabetologists, regardless of expertise level, should have this book on hand.
